SUMMARY:Program\, Lauren Treacy\, College Possible\, "Empowering Students o
 n their Journey to a College Degree\," February 20\, 2025
DESCRIPTION:\nJoin the University Sunrise Rotary Club for a program featu
ring Lauren Treacy of College Possible.\n\n\n\nThe&nbsp\;program will be p
resented in-person and on Zoom on Thursday morning informally beginning at
7 a.m. The formal meeting including the program runs from 7:30-8:30 a.m.
No registration is required\, and the program is free.\n\n\n\nThe in-perso
n meeting will be at the Wedgwood Community Church at 8201 30th Ave NE\, S
eattle.\n\n\n\nThe meeting will also be available via Zoom. You can click
here to join the Zoom meeting.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLauren Treacy serve
s as the Executive Director of College Possible Washington. She has over t
en years of experience in the education nonprofit field. Her experience as
a first-generation college student and an AmeriCorps Member guides her fo
cus on the importance of college access and success. Prior to College Poss
ible Washington\, Lauren served as the Interim Executive Director at City
Year Seattle/King County where she built strong partnerships in Seattle Pu
blic Schools. Servant and adaptive leadership coupled with a community-cen
tered approach\, drives the work culture Lauren builds.\n\n\n\nLauren atte
nded Gonzaga University for her undergraduate studies and holds an M.Ed. i
n School Counseling from Louisiana State University. Lauren is a true Wash
ingtonian having grown up in Central Washington and currently lives in Wes
t Seattle with her partner Casey\, their young son Forrest\, and her many
animals.\n\n\n\nCollege Possible Washington (previously known as College A
ccess Now or CAN)\, is working to close the college degree divide. Since 2
006\, their college access and success programs have helped empower more t
han 6\,850 students within Seattle and South King County on their path to
earning a college degree. Their pioneering model matches eligible student
s with near-peer coaches and a proven curriculum designed to help them ove
rcome the most common barriers to getting into college and completing thei
r degree — all at no cost to students or their families.\n\n\n\nThro
ugh partnerships with Seattle\, Renton and Federal Way school districts\,
College Possible Washington is advancing educational equity for students i
n the King County community. Only 30%+ of young people in Washington stat
e will have a college degree by age 26\, even though 70% of jobs in our st
ate will require an AA/BA degree. The challenge is more pressing when we
discover that only 34% of students who come from a low-income community in
South King County graduate college compared to 71% of their peers from a
high-income community. Talent and motivation are equally spread amongst s
tudents\, but access and resources are not. The aim of College Possible Wa
shington is to help create a more educated and diverse workforce by offeri
ng young people real opportunities to break the cycle of poverty.\n
